C’Verde eye maximum points against Eagles

CAPE VERDE coach, Bubista, says their target is to get the maximum points when they play the Super Eagles in their crucial final Group C 2022 World Cup qualifier at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Tuesday.

The Blue Sharks ensured they kept their World Cup qualifying hopes alive with a 2-1 comeback win over the Central African Republic on Saturday to sit just two points behind Nigeria.

A win will see them qualify for the playoff round of the qualifiers ahead of the Eagles and Bubista believes the mission to get the maximum points in Lagos is not impossible.

“In Nigeria, we will try our best to try and win the game by playing together. Our goal is to win and get the three points needed to qualify to the next stage,” Bubista said.

The Eagles narrowly piped the Cape Verdeans away from home 2-1 after a bizarre own goal from Kenny Santos in the 76th minute in Mindelo.

The Cape Verdeans bounced back from the disappointing loss to Nigeria to record back-to-back wins against Liberia and another victory over CAR to move two points off the Eagles.

Nigeria currently top Group C with 12 points, while second-placed Cape Verde have 10 points. CAR are on four points while Liberia are bottom of the log with just three points.
