The management of the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, on Thursday said that the legal icon, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, would bag its honourary Doctorate Degree of Letters at its 13th convocation.
Speaking with newsmen on the activities lined up for the 13th convocation, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Anthony Akinlo, said Olanipekun was chosen for the honour, having exhibited astute leadership qualities.
Akinlo, who further disclosed that during the convocation, 381 students would be conferred with first degree, while 69 others would bag post-graduate honours in different disciplines, enumerated various achievements during the 2020/2021 academic session.
According to him, in the course of the session, National Universities Commission gave accreditation to the university’s Law and Psychology programmes.
He said, “As part of this year’s Convocation, the University has decided to bestow its highest honour on a revered Legal Luminary, Chief Wole Olanipekun, Senior Advocate of Nigeria. The University would be conferring an honorary doctorate degree of Letters (D.Litt) (Honoris Causa) on Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) in recognition of his astute leadership qualities and his immense contributions to the nation’s educational development.
“The University has continued to set the pace over the years in Its tenacious commitment to Academic and Research Excellence.
“Also, new programmes such as Applied Geo-Physics, Environmental Management & Toxicology, Geology and Meteorology received NUC approval to kick-off in the 2021/2022 academic session.”
